Bre Pettis teams up with Hardware Hacker Joe Grand to show you how to integrate LCDs and GPS into your electronics projects. Then they put these two things together on a basic stamp and create a portable GPS tracking system and go geocaching!

I’m glad I’m an electrical engineer, it’s just so interesting.
thats called a basic stamp kit and it is super easy to programe
@MrJustdontcare
maybe 30$ and the lcd 5-10$ . the board they pin down everything cost like 30-50$ i dont know … so it is like a 50$-100$ GPS …
I think the gps reciever is 70$, and more money for all the varius other stuff. Total probably 120$?. You could buy one that does more, but isnt as cool for less.
S IS FOR SUCKS! Haha, jk, these guys are awesome.
you are cute
Go out and find yourself some booty!
nice, hacking is fun. ‘a treasure hunt for nerds’, ha.

“now you’ve seen how easy it is to make LCD say whatever you want”
no we didn’t…
they are weird but fortunately i like weird people. i want to be like them…
Do the mention how much this devise cost to make, in total? I mean that compared to the next cheapest portable GPS, would kinda be handy.
it’s joe from protype this on discovery
Hey Guys,
I’d like to create a device that receives GPS data and transmits information collected (pretty much the receiver that you designed) where did you find the receiver/how did you design it. Any tips on how to get started?
Wow pretty cool. You guys make it look real easy.
Wow you made electronics fun. (HOW IT SHOULD BE!!!!) Thanks for that.
How did you program the LCD? USB cable? Also what language is it? Assembly?
lcd don’t need manual degaussing
thought I should point this out cause most other types of monitor/screen DO pick up static.
he sucked on prototype this too : )
nah just kidding, big fan of the show. real shame it was cancelled. I had the perfect 2 projects for them to build. could have been world changing. this one first “zev. dk” and then a variant with a lifting body and a ducted fan prop behind the driver so it is both car and plane. first practical flying car in the world
he does, but not half as much as bre, and hes got the wrong aditude
@PeeteyP It is free, although if you live in the UK, it’ll probably taxed at some point in the next 10 years.
My dad helped develop GPS when it was being developed for military only use back in the day
also, great video! :3
I totally wouldn’t be showing my GPS data if I was at home with a video online. Might as well be posting your address.
GAY!!!
Oh my god! its you from that ‘prototype this’ program! small world ey
frikiiiis
GPS is free.
